The three new Michaelic impulses that started in Christmas 2023
Excerpt from the third lecture to the Global School of Spiritual Science
Überlingen, 1st June 2024
Dear friends,
Yesterday I mentioned that we have three main tasks connected organically with each other, that we accomplished in the three major centenary events in 2022, 2023, and 2024. A century ago, Rudolf Steiner gave three major new Michaelic impulses, that represented the last effort of Michael to intervene in human history until the end of the 20th century:
1 The rebirth of the spiritualized Goetheanum,
2 The Christmas foundation conference and a renewal, from the foundations, of the anthroposophical society,
3 The founding of an esoteric school, under the direct guidance of Michael himself.
These three impulses were short lived on earth, and were forced to leave humanity when Rudolf Steiner died in Easter 1925. But all the more they continued to develop in the etheric world, and we celebrated and actualized their new formation, experienced directly in the etheric world, during the celebrations of their centenaries, in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Let us briefly describe again these three new Michaelic impulses, as they work today, in the second century of the age of Michael, in a new form directly from the spiritual world.
The first Michaelic impulse that flows today from the spiritual world, is found in the spiritualized being of the first Goetheanum. After it became during 1923 the inspiring spirit of the Christmas foundation conference, it left the earth with Rudolf Steiner in 1925, and has become, through the Spiritual Event of the 20th century, the temple of the earthly-human Sun. We remarked that through all its major metamorphoses, it was and is the spiritual temple of the age of Michael. Through the brand in Sylvester 1922, the laying of the foundation stone in Christmas foundation conference of 1923, and the Spiritual Event of the 20th century, the Michaelic-Christ impulse was and is always taking place in its center. I said that the laying of the renewed foundation stone in Christmas 1923 took place in the spiritual temple of the spiritual Goetheanum. We have pointed out that the laying of the renewed foundation stone of the Michaelic movement in the 21st century, celebrated in the centenary of the Christmas foundation conference in Christmas 2023, took place exactly at the same spiritual center. This is the first major Michaelic impulse that we have to realize in this and the coming years, if we wish to understand and experience that we are also working inside this open-universal temple of humanity. Then we shall realize that the spirit of the spiritual Goetheanum is always with us and around us, wherever and whenever we go, in whatever we do.
The second Michaelic impulse was actualized in the centenary of the Christmas foundation conference of 1923, when we celebrated the formation and laying of the renewed foundation stone in Christmas 2023. Our task in 2024 is to begin to form the new Michaelic community based on the renewed foundation stone. The community of the school that we have today, was built before Christmas 2023 and must be wholly transformed through the renewed foundation stone, that expresses the new Michaelic impulse. As you could see, the renewed foundation stone contains the quintessence of the whole spiritual history of the 20th century, and it will only become a reality in the most decisive, second century of the age of Michael, if it becomes a foundation of an entirely new Michaelic community, that will realize what until now was not realized in modern history: the long hoped for new brother-and sisterhood, based on direct connection with the spiritual worlds and true human love on earth.
The third Michaelic impulse is the renewal of the school of spiritual science through the inspiration of the spiritual Goetheanum and renewed foundation stone. We have to transform and renew the school that we created in recent decades, because it was formed before Christmas 2023. But now we must feel, humbly but courageously, that we are graced and strengthened by the new Christ and Michaelic impulses of the renewed foundation stone laid in Christmas 2023. The Michaelic community and the school must be entirely transformed thought this new impulse, and in the coming years, this will be our main task.
These three new Michaelic impulses, that started in Christmas 2023, belong together, flowing to earthly life form the same spiritual source: the spiritual Goetheanum as the temple of the earthly-human Sun, the renewed impulse of the Christmas foundation conference and the laying of the foundation stone of the Michaelic movement in the 21st century, with the renewed community based on it, and the new Michaelic school, on which everything is based. So you can see, since Christmas 2023 our real work is just beginning. This is reality a wholly new beginning for all and each one of us, and you can certainly experience it in your fiery heart and enthusiastic will.
In our last Zoom-talk we made the following exercise in our imagination. We placed ourselves in the year 2050, looked back to 1950, and imagined how since the end of last century, we started to build the Michaelic bridge. We are now in June 2024, after the laying of the renewed foundation stone in Christmas 2023. We have 26 years before us, until the middle of the century. There we situate ourselves and look backwards at 1950. In 1950 the new Michaelic plan was drafted in the etheric world, described in The Twilight and Resurrection of Humanity. Now from the vantage point of 2050 we surveyed how this plan was realized and said to ourselves: the external conditions and developments in the external world are of course not under our control, this is world karma, but we will continue our work from 2024 until 2050 steadily, as we did until now, developing it peacefully and organically, in the midst of whatever it has to go through, all the way to the middle of the century. And looking back from 2050 to 2024, we want to dedicate all our forces to this goal, that by the middle of Michael’s second, most crucial century, which is also the middle century of his present age, Michael will be able to say: some humans have reconnected with us after all in my age! Now we can complement their work from our side and implement the new Michaelic plan in the 2nd half of the century, to bring the second major Michaelic impulse to earth towards the end of the century, wake humanity up, and develop it through the 22nd century in its fulness.
Durchhaltekraft in German ist ein wunderbarer Ausdruck. Durch means to go through difficulties in yourself and in your environment. It means to through all hindrances and apparent failures and continue peacefully to walk in your straight Michaelic path! But you have to hold it firmly in firm spiritual hands, continuously hold and repeat the break-through process. The break-through is not a momentary event, overcoming one obstacle and then falling back to sleep. No, you have to make the break-through a continuous process that continues all the time without a break, without forgetting. This forgetfulness of the real spirit proved our greatest human weakness in the last century. Durchhaltekraft, Geduld – persistent, perseverance – ein langer Atem auf dem Weg – to see and realize the goals not from one day to the next , not to live only from one month or year to the next, but to hold clearly before your spiritual eyes the goal of the middle of the century, the end of the century, the blooming of the Michaelic age in the 22nd century, to see the development of the age of Michael as a whole, and what comes after this, when dark Oriphiel takes the lead, and so on.
We discussed often the stark either-or nature of our time: Either Michael will be saying to his companion gods: Human have made it, they have reconnected with us in my age! Or he will have to say, with deep sorrow: mortals failed and I failed in my shift. It did not happen, let us prepare for the great catastrophes to come! We must learn to enter the dates of this near and long future as we do with our annual calendars of work and life. Each one must create a Michaelic calendar of evolution and enter there all the planed and expected important events, as we enter in our annual calendars what we are going to do tomorrow, next week, next month and year. Rudolf Steiner said that the initiates and teachers of humanity make these calendars, because they have the whole past and future evolution in consciousness. But now the time is at hand, which means that mortals must learn to do some of the things that only immortals did until recently. The universal evolution of humanity must become our deeply personal concern as our ordinary personal duties and goals are. The universal human must become intensively personal as our daily duties and commitments, no less.
